The thing about Torchwood...the thing that their newest employee, Doctor Smith, disliked the very most about Torchwood was...they had so, so much paperwork. He could, quite literally, feel himself age while he filled out miles of pointless paperwork.

With the right timing, the bulk of it found its way through shredders, to the shimmering water far below the Tower, or caught up in bizarre office fires. For the most part, he blamed it all on lack of coordination or attention lapses, and for the most part, no one questioned him.

Sometimes they fished out the paperwork from the water and expected him to file it anyway, and he didn't have the heart (he only had one now, after all) to make them go through it just to have it spontaneously combust or get mixed into a random experiment on accident.

But the thing about Torchwood that he really, really, enjoyed the very most? The second most, next to spending all day in the general proximity of Rose, were the field missions. He didn't quite enjoy as much the riding in the Torchwood vehicles to the far off field missions half a continent away...

That got very boring. He missed having the TARDIS to go places while he was stuck in the backseat of a Torchwood-issued SUV, riding across the spine of nowhere through...he wasn't certain where he was anymore. That specific directional sense got muddled now and again in his part-human body, and he wasn't paying enough attention to road signs to know for sure.

Just that there was at least another fifteen minutes before they'd get to the village with the unexplained creature.

He managed not to ask if they could drive a little faster please, but he couldn't quite keep away the unhappy pout at being made to wait so long. He wasn't certain the driver would really care anyway. Which was probably why they'd stopped letting Rose drive anywhere.
